Direct Examination: Podcast looks at the lighter side of law

Several of Eric Chalmers Poston's legal cases have gained public attention, particularly those involving civil rights and criminal defense:

Robertson v. Anderson Mill Elementary School (2021)

Poston represented the appellant (a minor child through their mother) in this case, arguing that the school principal infringed on the child's First Amendment right to free speech.
The lawsuit sought $1 million in damages.
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ultimately affirmed the district court's decision, finding that the principal's actions were a proper exercise of authority to regulate school-sponsored student speech.
This case drew attention due to its focus on student speech rights and LGBTQ+ issues in the school context.

Moorer Civil Suit (Ongoing)

Poston was retained by Tammy and Sidney Moorer, who intend to file a civil suit against police agencies investigating the disappearance of Heather Elvis.
The suit alleges violations of the Moorers' constitutional rights and claims ineffective counsel.
Poston states that the suit will proceed as long as he is alive after the trials conclude and that the case will expose the truth and potentially lead to exoneration and financial relief for the Moorers.

Other cases

While specific details are limited, it's known that Poston handles cases involving marijuana and civil rights litigation, according to www.chalmersposton.com.
In one case, Keels v. Poston, a 2005 case involving a traffic accident, Poston was the defendant and was found to have been at least partially responsible for the accident.

It is important to note that the Robertson case, despite Poston's arguments, did not result in a reversal of the lower court's decision. In the Moorer case, it's still ongoing, and the outcomes remain to be determined.
